Today’s Kirkko & kaupunki (”The church and the city”), the Finnish-language weekly paper of the Helsinki evangelic lutheran parish union, once again carries a hair-raising editorial by ultra-liberal chief publicity officer Seppo Simola.
In English (translation mine):
“Today’s people do not want to swallow an already-chewed view of life. The church will fail its mission if it settles for offering just one model of faith. If the church trumpets out one and only real truth, it does not serve today’s individuals properly.”
One faith and one truth equal failure for the church?
The church Mr. Simola speaks for seems to have abandoned the First Commandment, John 14:6, and all other such “already-chewed” stuff - let everyone customize their church experience with exactly the beliefs and values they want, Christian or not. Apparently no sell-out is too extreme when it comes to safeguarding the cash flow from “today’s individuals”.
