A couple of days ago I wrote about network security incidents going through the roof. The information I quoted was accurate. However, a related ministry of truth media release contains an error. It alleges that CERT-FI would have received only 34 malware reports during the year 2004:
…when in fact CERT-FI statistics indicate that the real count was 216:
I emailed one of the ministry’s media officers, pointing out their error, and referring them to the CERT-FI material. The web page, however, remains unchanged; the only response I have received from Minitrue is this:
The message sent to ulla.tulonen@intermin.fi has been deleted
Reporting-UA: smtiimi1 (TeamWARE Connector for MIME v5.x) Original-Message-ID: <007e01c80b77$376615b0$2401a8c0@thornx7400> Final-Recipient: rfc822;ulla.tulonen@intermin.fi Disposition: automatic-action/MDN-sent-automatically; deleted
This is the kind of public administration we are stuck with in this country - but then they might be complaining over being stuck with this kind of media…
Have you encountered cases of authorities being reluctant to rectify errors in statistics or other material? Please leave your comment!
