New “joking” school violence threats on Youtube

The Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) reports that the Finnish police has detained three Finnish males, ages 14, 15 and 16, on suspicion of having threatened two Finnish schools. The threats were made in videos uploaded to Youtube.

The 14 and 15 year old suspects had threatened a Vantaa school; the 16 year old, a school in Maaninka. The two cases are apparently not interconnected by anything else than the inspiration provided by the recent mass homicide at the Jokela high school.

All three suspects have been released. They have denied any intention of violence. The police describe their motives as thoughtlessness and wanting to make a joke. In any case, there will be a police presence at the Vantaa school tomorrow Monday.

What do you think about these threats and their motives? Please post your comments!
