The world’s first transistor was built around today sixty years ago, at Bell Labs, now part of Alcatel-Lucent. As you can see, the size was somewhat larger than that of today’s transistors.
As transistors gradually replaced vacuum tubes, the world drew closer to the digital era we now consider self-evident. The processor chip of a typical PC contains millions of tiny transistors.
