A TeliaSonera mail server crash on 3 January 2008, at 14:00 UTC, has affected approximately 300,000 Telia customers in Sweden.

Two million incoming messages have been delayed during the repairs. Worse, the newest serviceable backup set is from 15 December 2007. This means that Telia customers who have stored their mail on the broken server only, rather than downloading the messages to their personal workstation, have lost almost three week’s worth of incoming messages.

Telia will compensate affected customers by mailing them—through postal mail—a rebate voucher for 200 SEK (approximately 21.30 €).
