Finnish TV networks to run emergency broadcast test

Starting 15 Jan 2008, television networks in Finland will carry emergency bulletins compiled by the authorities, as radio stations already do. Emergency bulletins will be broadcast when human lives are at risk, or when substantial damage threatens property or the environment.

The new TV emergency broadcast system will be tested on 15 Jan 2008, at 13:05 Finnish time. The Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE), MTV3 and Nelonen channels will show a text informing viewers that the TV emergency broadcast system is being tested. The text will run across the top of the screen for five minutes, and after a three-minute break, for five more minutes. Simultaneously with the text, a sound alert, consisting of the SOS sign, will air.
