Changes in RIPE NCC services

On 27 Feb 2008, between 1700 and 1900 hrs UTC, RIPE NCC staff will replace the web server www.ripe.net. This entails the following changes:

IP address change

The IP address of www.ripe.net will change.

The RIPE NCC is reminding the community that any software connecting to www.ripe.net should not use a hard-coded target IP address.

New syncupdates URIs

The change will also result in new URIs for synchronous updates to the RIPE database.

Old:
http://www.ripe.net/syncupdates
http://www.ripe.net/syncupdates-test

New:
http://syncupdates.db.ripe.net
http://syncupdates-test.db.ripe.net

HTTP redirections will be provided, so if your syncupdates client software is able to handle 301s, you should be all right, at least for the time being. According to the RIPE NCC, it is advisable to use the new URI directly though.

If your client does not understand redirects, you will need to update the URI in your software before the change takes place. (In order to avoid future problems, you should also implement redirect support.)

The new URIs for synchronous updates are already available, so you can make any changes to your syncupdates software right away.
