Nokia Maps 2.0 causes Communicator rebootitis?

image of Nokia E90 CommunicatorFor a couple of days now, I have tried out the Nokia Maps 2.0 release—not a beta version—on a Nokia E90 Communicator. Although there are a lot of new and welcome features, such as traffic information and satellite images, they have been somewhat overshadowed by the fact that the phone also began to spontaneously restart itself several times per day.

No third-party software was installed. The E90 firmware version was 7.40.1.2. I had always installed the new versions suggested by PC Suite, but when I specifically searched for updates, I nevertheless found a whopping version 210.34.75 (sic).

I updated an hour ago; at least so far there have been no more restarts. Still, should problems arise, I will post a comment here. Likewise, if you have an opinion or other comment, please share it!

Update: The E90 firmware upgrade to version 210.34.75 downgraded Nokia Maps back to version 1.2.

Update 2: The spontaneous restarts seem to have ended after I reinstalled Maps 2.0.

Although Maps 2.0 did cheerfully install over an older firmware version, it would probably be a good idea to install firmware version 210.34.75 before updating Maps to version 2.0.

Update 3: According to a comment from Nokia, the reboot problem mentioned above was not caused by Maps 2.0, but rather by some fault in the phone’s other Nokia software.

I had the same problems as you described, but after the firmware upgrade the problem was worse - Nokia Maps wouldn’t even start.

Luckily the full version of Nokia Maps 2 came out the day after the E90 firmware upgrade & putting Maps 2 over the new firmware seems fine now - luckily!

Maps 2.0 seems pretty useless though for those of us without traffic info in our countries - I can’t even find a way to show speed or heading as I am navigating. I just used the maps in Korea & between the lack of data on the maps & the lack of other features, it was really a waste fo battery power.
