TeliaSonera (OMXH: TLS1V) has now established the reason for its 16 May 2008 outage, which lasted from approximately 16:00 to 21:00 Swedish time. The incident affected Telia’s 2G and 3G networks in Sweden, causing up to two thirds of mobile calls to fail during that time.
According to the company, the problem was due to a construction defect in a signalling node CPU. TeliaSonera began upgrading the affected processors on 19 May 2008, and will within the upcoming weeks also perform a software upgrade to further mitigate the issue.
