Itella customers at risk for virtual dumpster diving

I am concerned about the business espionage potential that is inherent in the address cards of Itella, the leading Finnish postal service provider. The item codes on these cards end in consecutive numbers, which means that a recipient easily can look up (at http://www.itella.fi/english/onlineservices/tools/itemtracking.html) other items mailed by the same sender. Although senders probably can avoid this risk by selecting arbitrary address labels at an Itella office, this is much more troublesome than using entire blocks of cards as such.

As the codes are rather long, I believe it would be possible for Itella to use e.g. a four-digit control number, which would make unjustified searches much more difficult. Additionally, the search application might require some other recipient-specific information, such as the correct postcode, before displaying item information.
