Update breaks Nokia Maps: ‘Feature not supported’

Nokia Maps on a Nokia C2 phone

As of today (9 November 2011), Nokia is pushing out a new version of its Maps application. Unfortunately, the update seems to have broken Maps for many users; when they try to launch Maps, they receive the message Maps: Feature not supported, and Maps fails to start.

You may want to wait this issue out instead of rushing to update your software.

Has this failure affected you? Do you know of a solution? Please post your comments!

Update 1: I got Maps working again on my E7 by uninstalling “ODML Commons Repository” and installing the older Ovi Maps version 3.06 (which is available in the Nokia Store). Incidentally, I am no longer being offered the upgrade that broke Maps – perhaps Nokia yanked it from distribution.

Update 2: According to the reply I received from Nokia twelve days after I had contacted the company, the update had included a defective file that caused the malfunction. This fault should be repaired in the version that is currently being distributed. Indeed, version 3.08 11wk41 b02 started without errors. However, it launched a ’Feedback – Terms of use – About Maps – Map Loader – Settings’ screen instead of showing the map. I could exit the application, but on restart, I was still stuck with the same screen – no map. I ended up rolling back to version 3.06 11wk23 b05 once more.
