According to information security company F-Secure, large denial of service attacks are being mounted against the web sites of the Estonian authorities.
When testing a short while ago, the following sites mentioned by F-Secure were unreachable from my network - connections to port 80/tcp just timed out:
- The Estonian government
- The prime minister
- Ministry of the interior
- Foreign ministry
- Ministry of economic affairs and communications
This activity apparently has to do with a statue representing a Soviet soldier. The Estonian goverment yesterday dismantled the statue, and moved the fragments from the statue’s thereto site, in the Estonian capital city of Tallinn, to an unknown location.
Riots have already been underway for two consecutive nights in the streets of Tallinn, as Russian-speaking youths have protested what they view as a desecration of both the Red Army’s honor and the soldier graves that allegedly exist near the statue site in downtown Tallinn. One Russian youth is said to have been killed; hundreds have been interned by the Estonian police.
