Safety authority bans gas fridge that killed two

In the summer of 2010, two people died of carbon monoxide poisoning caused by the Scandic XC-50 refrigerator. Tukes, Finland’s Safety Technology Authority, has now banned the sales of this LPG-operated fridge and ordered the importer to recall those units already sold.

Gas extinguishing system may blow out walls and windows

Tukes—Finland’s Safety Technology Authority—reports a serious hazard related to automatic fire extinguishing systems. In a recent data centre fire, the gas extinguishing system automatically put out the fire as intended. However, it also blew out a lightweight wall and a number of windows, spraying glass onto the street outside.
